If you’ve ever popped into Dean Forest Cycles and had a chat about getting your first proper mountain bike, the Lana’i is exactly the kind of thing that usually comes up.

It’s that classic “right, I want to ride trails but I don’t want to go mad on budget yet” kind of bike. Nothing flashy or intimidating — just solid and easy to get on with.

You’ve got simple 8-speed gearing, so you’re not constantly thinking about complicated setups, just click and ride. The disc brakes are a big plus too, especially around Forest of Dean trails when things get muddy and you actually want to stop when you say so.

The different wheel sizes depending on frame size is a nice touch as well — 26 for smaller riders, 27.5 for medium, and 29 for the taller folks — so it actually feels right rather than one-size-fits-all compromise.

And with a 100mm front fork, it takes the edge off roots and rocky bits without overdoing it.

Basically, it’s the sort of bike Dean Forest Cycles would happily set someone up on for their first real taste of singletrack — something simple, dependable, and ready to go explore the woods.
